Remember, as graduate student teachers and therefore employees of the university we are mandatory reporters, so keep that in mind if you elect to share personal information.

Campus Sexual Assault

It is most important to remember that it is never the survivor's fault that they have been assaulted. Regardless of what the survivor was doing, what their relationship was with the perpetrator, what they were wearing, or what had been consumed, the only person who is at fault is the perpetrator

It is important that survivor's know:

  • What happened to them was not their fault

  • That they are not alone in what they have experienced, and that there is help available if they desire it (please see resources below)

Sexual assault is a crime which takes away a survivor's personal autonomy, and restoring that autonomy is an important part of healing. Be sure not to push a sexual assault survivor to make specific discussions, it is important that they are able to regain their sense of control within their lives following this trauma.

Harassment

Experiencing harassment, discrimination, or retaliation can be a major obstacle to student learning. There are resources at the University of Colorado to aid students who are experiencing any of these.

University of Colorado policies regarding discrimination, harassment and retaliation:

Cheating

The University of Colorado Boulder requires students to abide by the Honor Code, stating that all students will do their own work. Honor code violations are reviewed by a board of students, and potential violations can be submitted to their website online.

Students of Concern

The role of the Students of Concern Team (SOCT) is to help students who may be experiencing distress or challenging life circumstances. The office provides early intervention, resources, and referrals, both on campus and in the community. If you have a student you have reason to believe could benefit from services--either immediate or longer-term--you may submit a referral online.
